Ofelia Maria Davis passed away peacefully at home on Mother's Day, May 14, 2017 surrounded by all 11 of her children. She was born March 18, 1931 to Chauncey E. Mann and Lucia DeLuna in Santa Maria, TX. She had two sisters, Della and Gloria, one brother, Marcello, and three stepbrothers, Charles, William, and Montie. On November 11, 1951, Ofelia married the love of her life, Shirley "Chale" Davis. She was the mother of 12 children all born between 1952 and 1964, which included three sets of twins! Having lost their first son, Charles, on Jan. 8, 1952, seven days after birth, they lived with their 11 children in Brownsville , TX until 1966. It was then that Shirley began working for Boeing on the 747 program which moved the family to Washington State. The family lived in Seattle for four years before settling and raising the kids in Snohomish, WA, where all 11 children graduated. In 1990 Shirley retired from Boeing and Ofelia retired from Providence Hospital. With the children raised and on their own, they moved back to Brownsville, TX to enjoy a simple life among family and friends there. They would often travel to different states and back to Snohomish visiting their children, 23 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren. After the death of Shirley on March 22, 1995, Ofelia eventually returned to Washington in 2013 to live closer to her children. She settled in downtown Snohomish in a cute townhouse with a pretty covered front porch, two white rocking chairs, potted flowers everywhere, and did what she enjoyed most: rocking in her chair while watching the birds at the bird feeders. She was very happy there. As a child, Ofelia loved running track and playing softball. She had many stories to tell, often of how she was one of the fastest runners! As her children got older, she enjoyed going to all of their games and events (no easy task with 11 children!). Snohomish football games, baseball or track, you would always see her show up in her blue van decked out with spirit! She also loved watching the Seahawks and Mariners games, usually wearing her team gear in full support. She spent years traveling to Chelan to watch the boys play softball. She and Shirley loved the time with the team and all of their families. Ofelia was a very active member of the American Legion in Brownsville, TX, participating in numerous funerals and memorials supporting our Veterans. In Snohomish, she was a member of the Snohomish Senior Center where she enjoyed playing bingo. Ofelia was preceded in death by her parents, Chauncey and Lucia, her husband Shirley, brother and sister, Marcello and Della, her son Charles and grandson Joshua. She is survived by her sister Gloria, and children Marshall Davis (Emma), Dawn Martin, Clayton Davis (Sylvia), Anthony Davis (Sandi), Penelope Davis, Forrest Davis, Melody Roberson (Dean), Dean Davis, Debbie Thomas (Marv), Yvette Cochran (Jim), and Yvonne Young (Daryn), along with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and step grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her. There will be a Celebration of Life on June 16, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at Thomas Family Farm, 9010 Marsh Rd., Snohomish, WA 98296. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Snohomish Senior Center.
